The Universitat de València celebrates the World Day for Physical Activity

The Universitat de València, through the Physical Education and Sports Service (SEF), joined the celebrations of the World Day for Physical Activity last 6 April. This is an initiative by the World Health Organization (WHO) to stand out the benefits of exercise.

The Universitat de València had a session of open activities for members of the university community and the Valencian society. World dances, tai chi, aikido, yoga and a round table shape the activity programme which aimed to be inclusive and it is titled ‘Posa’t en moviment’ took place at the Blasco Ibáñez Pavilion. 

The organization of the Worl Day for Physical Activity is coordinated throught an agreement between the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation and the seven Valencian universities, under the brand UniEsport. ‘’We want to emphasise the importance of practising sport for the wellbeing. That is the reason why from the Universitat de València, we support the WHO initiative through the offer of open and inclusive activities, for everybody, members of the University Community and citizens in general’ explains the Director of the SEF, José Campos. 

The sport session concluded with a round table of experts moderated by José Campos in the Salón de Grados of the Faculty of of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences (FCAFE). It was titled ‘Sport as an integration tool and promotion for a healthy life’. The round table was moderated by José Campos along with José María Nácher, tenured university professor of Applied Economics of the Universitat de València, who talked about grassroots sport and social inclusion in cities based on the case of the Handball Club of Mislata; Alejandro Salvador, Marketing Director of Cárnicas Serrano, who talked about integration based on the race; Alejandro Martínez, responsible of the programme ‘Healthy Week’ of the FCAFE, will give the conference entitled ‘Actividad física, salud y justicia social’ (Physical Activity, Health and Social Justice); and Héctor Cabrera, paralympic athlet who participated in Río 2016, will develop the conference ‘El deporte de competición como una vía de perfeccionamiento personal’ (The competitive sport as a way of personal improvement). 

Thus, a session that demonstrated the benefits of exercise concluded.
