Academic, scientific or professional interest: Biomedical research is basic to increasing socioeconomic wellbeing and sustainability and to improving people’s life quality and expectancy, as it allows us to gain new knowledge and apply it to the improvement of disease prevention and diagnosis, and to obtain safer drugs and therapies, and increased efficiency in the use of health resources. A better position in the area of health research can only be reached by offering new biomedical research lines in pharmaceutical technologies and health science and technology of high quality standards, with a comprehensive, multidisciplinary and integrated approach, and based on collaboration between researchers and basic and clinical teams working in public health, occupational health and environmental health who are aware of health care and clinical realities and with a problem-solving focus.
