
On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Casal de la Pau, the Universitat de València’s Fòrum de Debats is hosting today, June 5th, a lecture by José Ignacio González Faus titled ‘La cárcel como signo del antirreino’ (Prison as a symbol of anti-reign). During the lecture, the Valencia theologian is going to reflect on the need to position actively and critically in order to make prisons more human. The event is having place at La Nau’s Capella de la Sapiència at 20:00. Entrance is free.
González Faus, a Valencian Jesuit and professor emeritus in Facultat de Teologia and at Universidad Centroamericana (UCA) in El Salvador, is author of important works on theology, among them La humanidad nueva. Ensayo de cristología (1974), Acceso a Jesús (1979), Vicarios de Cristo: los pobres en la teología y espiritualidad cristianas (2008), Hombres de la comunidad: repasando el ministerio eclesial (1989), Al tercer día resucitó de entre los muertos (2003), Calidad cristiana: identidad y crisis del cristianismo (2006), El rostro humano de Dios: de la revolución de Jesús a la divinidad de Jesús (2007), and Otro mundo es posible... desde Jesús (2010).
Among the events organized by Casal de la Pau to celebrate its 40th, this lecture tries to encourage people to cooperate in this important task. Casal de la Pau is devoted to assist people in prisons, report dehumanizing of correctional centres, and give shelter to prisoners and ex-convicts. Universitat de València cooperates with this institution for years.
