The exhibition has been organised by the University and the López Piñero Institute and will be open until 15 March.

The Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Valencia presents on Tuesday, 12 February a selection of panels from the exhibition “Cal•ligrafies de la malaltia. Lletra de metge” (The calligraphy of disease. Doctors’ handwriting), displayed until March 15 in the hall of the Faculty of Pharmacy, at the Burjassot Campus of the University of Valencia. The exhibition has been organised by the Office of the Vice-principal for Culture and Equality of the UVEG and the López Piñero Institute for the History of Medicine and Science, joint centre of the CSIC and the UVEG, based at the Palau de Cerveró. The Fundació Campus Ontinyent (composed of the Municipal Council of Ontinyent, Caixa Ontinyent and the Mancomunitat de la Vall d’Albaida) also collaborates in the exhibition.

The exhibition, on display from 11 September to 9 November 2012 at the Institute and from 16 November 2012 to January 7 2013 at the Caixa Ontinyent Cultural Centre, has received more than 3,000 visitors. It was curated by Ricard Huerta, director of the Institute of Educational Creativity and Innovation.

It is an original university project reviewing handwriting as an element of visual culture. It discusses various aspects of medicine, calligraphy, visual arts, prescriptions, notes, etc., and the relationship between doctors and pharmacists. At the same time, it rediscovers the richness of handwriting in a time when it has been displaced by communication technologies.

It is worth highlighting, among others, the writings from the Library of the López Piñero Institute and from the Historical Archive of the University, including Pío Baroja’s academic record, Pedro Pinazo’s patients’ record of 1796 and an example of an 'iguala', a medical record containing the payments, in kind, that patients made to doctors. The activity “Recetas para mejorar el mundo” (Prescriptions to improve the world) has been moved to the hall of the Faculty of Pharmacy. In this activity, everyone can write their recommendations, advice or desires in a prescription, which will be hung on a panel
