Today, May 16th, the Universitat de València’s Principal, Esteban Morcillo, and the Valencian Minister for Governance, Serafín Castellano, are going to open the activities of the Chair for Valencian Regional Law – Cátedra de Derecho Foral Valenciano –. This ceremony is starting at 12:00 in Gregori Mayans library at Tarongers Campus. The Chair’s director, Javier Palao, is going to give a lecture.

Palao is a lecturer of law history and the Vice-dean for postgraduate courses at Facultat de Dret. His lecture is titled ‘Pèrdua i devolució dels Furs Valencians: mites i realitats’ (Loss and return of Valencian jurisdiction: myth and reality). This lecture is the result of a ten-year research on Bourbon policy as a result of the abolition of the Valencian jurisdiction in 1707.

This Chair was born with the aim of gathering all the studies and researchers interested in this branch of law, both in the Valencian Community and in other places. Beyond political demands, object of study and object of yearning, the Valencian regional jurisdiction is a scientific and historical reality which can be discovered by citizens for the first time.

This Chair’s goal is to promote training on Valencian regional law among the professionals and the social groups interested in it. It also intends to promote scientific research on this subject, and to spread the findings of the teaching and research activities.
