Researchers from six countries will discuss in the Faculty of Teacher Training about language teaching in virtual environments, tomorrow

The Faculty of Teacher Training of the University of Valencia hosts 24 and 25 January, an international meeting of researchers and students of different European universities and secondary schools, who participate in the project ‘Telecollaboration for Intercultural Language Acquisition’ (TILA), referring to programmes of language teaching in virtual environments. The University is responsible of the design, testing and evaluation of the interactive task in Spanish and Catalan for the entire European consortium.

Six countries are represented in the consortium of TILA: Germany, Spain, France, Holland, United Kingdom and Czech Republic. Each country collaborates with different secondary schools and one university in charge of training the teaching staff. The secondary schools which participate are: the IES Clot del Moro of Sagunt and the IES La Garrigosa of Meliana: The learning languages are: English, French, German, Spanish and Catalan. The venue of the meeting is in the Sala de Juntes of the Faculty of Teacher Training.

The project TILA not only innovates and enriches the programmes of language teaching in secondary schools but also tries to make them more effective and motivating through telecollaboration for intercultural awareness.

In these activities the students (in pairs or small groups) perform tasks in the target language with students of other European secondary schools. Environments which can be used to carry out these activities include social networks (facebook, ning, platforms, youtube) video communication or virtual worlds (second life).

The programme is coordinated by the University of Utrecht (Netherlands) and has been approved by the European Commission in the framework of the LifeLong Learning Programme for a period of three years (2013-2015).

Among the objectives of the project TILA also it is important the strengthening of programmes of training teaching staff for developing ICT skills and organizational, educational and intercultural competences of teachers and students for tellecollaboration. Other of the purposes is to study the possible added value which telecollaboration could have in the learning process of a language in the intercultural understanding of the youngest learners.
