The Universitat de València’s Principal, Esteban Morcillo, presented the portrait of the former Principal Francisco Tomás. Artur Heras, who attended the presentation, is the author’s painting. From now on, the painting can be seen in La Nau’s meeting room, next to the other Principals’ portraits.
The portrait’s presentation had the Principal’s team and the Deans who worked with the former Dean during his eight years in charge of Universitat de València. The former Principal Pedro Ruiz, the current governing, among others, also attended the ceremony.
Both Francisco Tomás and Esteban Morcillo expressed their ‘gratitude before the attendance of so many colleagues who have helped in intense and thrilling times.’
Esteban Morcillo stated that the attendance of Vice-principals and former Vice-principals ‘is a way of showing respect and acknowledgment to people who has worked for our university. In the more than five years of history, Universitat de València has had many difficulties. That is why we know that the university is made by generous people, and it is necessary to thank them for this work. We have the duty to continue working for the university and for our society.’
The Principal also thanked the artist Arthur Heras: ‘this painting enlarges the painting work of this author at our university, and this is something we are very proud of.’
Artur Heras’ work – an acrylic on a 88x61 cm canvas – has the format of all the iconic series where it belongs. The painting is part of the gallery of portraits of Universitat de València’s Principals since 1845, date of the university's nationalization. They are placed in chronological order.
All the figures have been usually represented dressed in the black cape and the Principal’s medal, many times wearing decorations. The lower part includes inscriptions on a golden background where the names and periods engraved.
