Universitat de València’s School of Engineering (ETSE) is hosting from 11th to 13th July several international experts in wireless communications. These meetings are being done under the framework of the project Consolider COMONSENS (Foundations and Methodologies of Future Communication and Sensor Networks). The goal is to analyze and debate on the last projects regarding wireless communication networks and sensors.
During these meetings, the results obtained throughout the last year of the project will be analyzed. Programmes Consolider COMONSENS and the German COIN (Communication in Interference Limited Networks) will share common data. The technological transfer of Testbeds used in the project will be discussed. For this, some companies of the field will take part, such as Telefónica I+D. This last meeting on Testbeds, taking place at Sala Joan Pelechano on July 13th will be open to the public and will have the Vice-principal for Research, Pedro Carrasco.
COMONSENS is the only Consolider initiative of this size tackling advanced wireless communications at a national level. It has an advisory board with some of the most outstanding experts in communications in the world, including members of the USA’s National Engineering Academy. This council periodically issues an independent report on COMONSENS’ evolution, and stablishes collaboration actions with European and American institutions. Important findings have been achieved thanks to COMONSENS, which have been published on prestigious scientific journals.
The information systems and communications group (GSIC), which is made up of members of the Robotics Institute (IRTIC) and ETSE, and is headed by professor Baltasar Beferull, is leading most of the work of the project. This work is related to algorithms design for wireless cooperative communications and intelligence distributed over the sensor networks of the future.
The total budget of the project is 3.5 million Euros, running from 2009 to 2014, which is financed by the Ministry for Economy and Competitiveness. 87 researchers from ten different institutions in Spain are taking part in this initiative, but also some companies are taking part, among them Telefónica, Indra, Telenor (Norway) and Thales Communications (France).
The project partners are Universitat de València, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Universidad de La Coruña, Universidad de Vigo, Universidad de Cantabria, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Universidad de Sevilla, and Centro de Estudios e Investigaciones Técnicas de Gipuzkoa.
