The programme Women and Development began in the academic year 1995-96.  It was a joint project of the IUED with the Office of the Vice-Principal for Scientific Policy and International Collaboration

The University Cooperation to Development is a fundamental part of the social commitment of the Universitat de València, whose work to achieve the human and sustainable development of the countries it cooperates with, is linked to teaching and research. Among the essential objectives to achieve it is the gender equity and the strengthening od the abilities and autonomy of women.

The Women and Development Grants of the 0’7 Cooperation Programme are addressed to students from developing countries. The presence in our University of these students, from the 1995-96 academic year to present times, is possible thanks to the grants funded by the Trust South-North. The IUED is in charge of the hosting, the assignment of a tutor out of the professors of the Institute and of the integration in the different cultural activities.

From the 1995 academic year to the 2004 it also carried out the courses of the Doctoral Programme: Gender, Knowledge, Subjectivity and Culture. Since the 2008-2009 academic year, the interns join the Official Master’s Degree in Gender and Equality Policies of the Universitat de València. Along two decades of programme, almost one hundred interns from different countries from Maghreb and Latin-America like Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba and Ecuador have been able to undertake gender studies.
