The Institute on Robotics and Information and Communication Technologies (IRTIC), affiliated to the University of Valencia, has begun to advise Intu on the new planning for Puerto Mediterráneo. The promoters of the future leisure centre have been working for months with Paterna Town Council to bring the project into line with the urban development guidelines that Paterna Town Council has set out in the Actúa Plan.

IRTIC's research work aims to provide Intu with new parameters for its sustainable leisure centre model. Through the study of the efficient use of resources and transport, the best urban planning, the optimisation of administrative management and the best information for people, Intu is adding a new agent in its desire to make Puerto Mediterráneo the first "smart" centre in Europe.

So far, the promoters and the local administration have worked together to promote a more accessible and plural digital economy through ICTs, making Puerto Mediterráneo the pioneering project in the strategy of sustainable urban development in Paterna. The improvement of digital literacy; innovation in the management of services; the launch of the Smart Paterna App and the promotion of public-private collaboration are the main lines of work shared by both entities.

In this sense, Puerto Mediterráneo will be a pre-connected space compatible with the ICT systems to be implemented by Paterna City Council, including both intelligent energy efficiency systems and digital information services for citizens. Thus, in terms of mobility, Intu will participate in the implementation of intelligent mobility control, the introduction of intelligent traffic lights, electric vehicle charging points and the promotion of a car-sharing service, among other measures.
