To use ViSta for the Mac, follow these
3 steps:
- Get ViSta for MacOS:
You should choose the version of ViSta for
MacOS that is appropriate for the kind of
Macintosh you are using.
FTP: If you wish, you may FTP ViSta+XLSPPC.sea.hqx
(PowerPC) or ViSta+XLS881.sea.hqx (68040
or 68030 with math coprocessor) directly
from ftp://192.41.30.119/pub/visuaftp/ViSta/mac.
- Running ViSta the First Time
- Extracting ViSta
(This step may be done automatically by
your browser.) The downloaded file that
you receive is a self-extracting stuffit
archive that contains all of ViSta along
with the portions of the XLisp-Stat system
that are needed for the version of the
Mac-OS that you specified. Run the .SEA
file to extract all of the ViSta files.
This should create a folder that contains
ViSta, several other files and folders
named README, DATA, EXAMPLES, CODE and
USERS.
- Running ViSta
Vista is now ready to run. Simply double
click the ViSta icon.
- Get the Documentation:
Documentation for
ViSta includes a chapter overviewing its
features and presenting the motivation underlying
ViSta's design, a chapter presenting a tutorial
that introduces the user to most of ViSta's
features, and a chapter describing how to
define data within ViSta. Some chapters
describing specific analysis methods are
also available.
Hardware and Software Requirements:
Both versions of ViSta for the Mac require
System 7 or later, a color monitor, 3 MB of
free hard disk space and at least 6 MB of
RAM (8 for the PowerMac). Each version includes
XLisp-Stat 3.52.5 and ViSta 5.05 in a single
download. For 680xx Macs, we recommend a 68040
processor (at the minimum, a 68030 + 68881
math coprocessor). There is no version for
Macintoshes without math coprocessors, although
ViSta works with coprocessor emulator software
such as softfpu.
