The Library and Documentation Service offers resources for teaching, learning, researching and other activities related with the operation and management of Universitat.
Its mission is to preserve books, journals, and other documents and to facilitate access and dissemination throughout the university community, as well as to cooperate in knowledge building processes to fulfil the institution’s aims.
The members of the university community are fully entitled to use the Library and Documentation Service: lecturers, researchers, students, postgraduates doing their theses in Universitat, and the administration and service personnel.
The SBD encompasses technical services and different libraries, archives, and documentary centres in different campus locations. With premises in the Nau building, the technical services are structured into different sections. The Information Systems Section develops the computerised library system and runs the catalogue. The Inter-Library Loan Section aims to find and facilitate access to primary documents published anywhere in the world and not available at Universitat. This is done through either loans or reproduction. The technical services also manage periodicals acquisition and access to electronic resources (databases, journals, electronic books, Somni digital library, etc.) as well as the restoration and photographic and digital reproduction of old collections.

Under the umbrella of the López Piñero Institute of History of Medicine and Science, the library has nearly 40,000 volumes, which include numerous rare books and leaflets from the 15th to 19th centuries, and collections of important 18th and 19th century journals. Its origins are in the old Medical College library collections, to which continuous donations by Valencian and Spanish physicians have been added over the past hundred years.
Next to the library, we find the Museum of Medical History, which was founded by José M. López Piñero with instruments, equipment, and other materials and iconography from the Medical College. Ever since, donations have been made by institutions and individuals. Today it shelters more than 3,000 objects.
In addition, the Library and the Museum have archives of different types. First, the personal archives of León Sánchez Quintanar, Joan B. Peset i Vidal, José Rodríguez Pertegás, and Vicent Peset Llorca. Secondly, clinical archives of figures such as the internist Fernando Rodríguez Fornos and the dermatologist José Esteller Luengo. Finally, institutional archives, mainly that of the Medical College, since the late 19th century.
