To be a student of our university, you have to satisfy one of these requirements:
- Possession of an Upper Secondary Education Certificate
- Having started university studies abroad
- Possession of a university degree
- Being over 25, 40 or 45 with one of the specific profiles decribed below
According to all of the above, you might be a student who is in one of the following situations :
First of all, obtain access credentials
Students with qualifications from the education systems of European Union member states, or of Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and China, can begin their university studies by presenting a certificate which accredits these qualifications, which is issued by the UNED (Spanish National University of Distance Learning).
The mark given in the accreditation is equivalent to a mark in the ‘General Phase’ of the University Entry Examination (NAU), and it corresponds to the mark received in their original qualification. If applicants want to increase their University Entry Mark (NAT), they can take the exams for the ‘Specific Phase’ of the same examination, via the UNED or any of the public universities in the Valencian Country.
Secondly, apply for a place at the University of Valencia.
When applicants have acquired their definitive marks, they should apply for a place at the university of their choice (PRE-ENROLMENT).
Applicants for a place at Spanish universities must use this ACCREDITATION in a maximum of two years after the date it was issued.

Application for pre-enrolment 2011
Pre-enrolment is the procedure we follow to assign university places when the number of applicants is higher than the number of places available. The five Valencian state universities constitute one pre-enrolment district. This means that students who want to apply for courses at different universities can do so with only one document that specifies the courses they want to study. Students can apply for a place on any of the university degrees they choose.
Physical ability trial
Students who want to take the Degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences must enrol for physical trials between the 15th and 30th of June.
A percentage of all the places on each degree at the University of Valencia will be reserved for applicants from various specific access routes. The highest quota (number of reserved places) is for graduates of Batxillerat (Spanish upper secondary school education) and graduates of Cicles Formatius (Spanish vocational education courses).
In addition, the following personal situations allow access to university studies via specific quotas:
- People with disability.
Disabilities certified by the Spanish state to a level of 33% or permanent special educational needs associated with personal circumstances.
5% of places. If not all of the places in this quota are not covered in the June phase, the percentage of places in the September phase can be increased to cover the number of places in this quota left unoccupied in June.
- High Level or Elite Sportsmen (Levels A or B).
3% of places. For the Degree in Physical Education and Sports Sciences and for the Degree in Physiotherapy, there will be an additional quota – a minimum of 5% – (until the September phase).
The pre-enrolment procedure has two phases. The first phase is an ordinary call for applications in June. The second phase is an extraordinary call for applications in September. In this second phase, the places that have not been covered in June are adjudicated.
Phase A - June 2011: from the 14th June to the 12th July
Phase B - September 2011 (after the Proves d’Accés a la Universitat (University Entry Examinations) have taken place).
Applicants should fill in a form online which will be available on the Conselleria d'Educació (Valencian Ministry of Education) webpage (www.preinscripcion.gva.es) during the preinscription period. You MUST PRESENT this form, printed and signed by the applicant, at the university school or faculty that offers your first choice of degree. In addition to the application form, you will need to present an original and photocopy of the documents that the UNED (Spanish National University of Distance Learning) has issued you, and an original and photocopy of your DNI (Spanish identity card), passport or NIE (Spanish foreign identity document).
Thirdly, prove your language skills
Applicants for degrees offered by the University of Valencia using the process described above must provide proof that they can use Spanish or pass a Language ability test to study these degrees.
- Degree in Medicine
- Degree in Dentistry
- Degree in Nursing
- Proof of language skills
- Characteristics of the test

In order for students who have completed their secondary education studies in non-EU countries that have no specific agreements with the University of Valencia (all of them, except Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and China), you must do the following:
1. Obtain official recognition of your secondary education certificate(s)
2. Enrol on and pass the specific entry tests for foreigners via the UNED (Spanish National University of Distance Learning)

To do this, you must present it to the Spanish educational authorities. They will compare it with a similar official Spanish degree and certify their equivalency
Requirements and procedure (Spanish Ministry of Education)
Submission of documentation for Official recognition
Documents must be submitted to the Ministeri d’Eudcació (Ministry of Education), via Spanish consulates abroad and the Spanish Government’s regional delegations.

Entry tests for students from non-EU education systems
To start university studies in Spain, you must take a selective entry test once you have finished secondary education. Students who have studied in non-EU countries (except for Iceland, Norway Liechtenstein, Switzerland or China) must:
- Obtain official recognition that your non-Spanish secondary studies are equivalent to the Batxillerat (Spanish upper secondary education). This is done by the Ministry of Education.
- Enrol and pass the specific selective entry tests for foreigners. These exams are organized by the UNED (Spanish National University of Distance Learning), where students must go to enrol and take the test.

- Pre-enrol at the university where you want to study. At the University of Valencia, this is the responability of the Conselleria d’Educació (Valencian Ministry of Education). You can access the degrees at the five Valencian state universities via this single procedure. You can do this via the University of Valencia. University districts are organisms that include all of the universities in one Spanish region in order to assign places. Each district establishes deadlines and supplies application forms for pre-enrolment.
3. Apply for a place at the University (pre-enrolment)
- Pre-Enrolment
- Deadlines, applying phases and documentation
Pre-enrolment is the procedure we follow to assign university places when the number of applicants is higher than the number of places available. The five Valencian state universities constitute one pre-enrolment district. This means that students who want to apply for courses at different universities can do so with only one document that specifies the courses they want to study. Students can apply for a place on any of the university degrees they choose, independently of in which university the entry tests have been made.
It is important to know that: students from foreign educational systems can only to be admitted on certain degrees at the University of Valencia, if they prove that they have an adequate level of Spanish.
.
Physical ability trial
Students who want to take the Degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences must enrol for physical trials between the 15th and 30th of June.
The pre-enrolment procedure has two phases. The first phase is an ordinary call for applications in June. The second phase is an extraordinary call for applications in September. In this second phase, the places that have not been covered in June are adjudicated.
Phase A - June 2011: from the 14th June to the 5th July
Phase B - to be determined (after the Proves d’Accés a la Universitat (University Entry Examinations) have taken place).
In addition to the ordinary access procedure for an official degree via pre-enrolment, you can enter a degree that is different to the degree you have started studying via the procedure below:
- Requirements
- Conditions
- Procedure
- You must have started studying an official university degree in any university in Spain or abroad.
- You must have studied enough subjects for the University to be able to officially recognize a minimum of 30 credits as equivalent in the degree you want to enter.
The faculty or university school will offer a number of places on each degree for students who want to change university or degree, and these centres will announce a period of time for applications during May. If some places are available after this, there will be an extraordinary application period in July. The Comissió Acadèmica de Títol (Academic Degree Commission) will order applications according to the following criteria:
- Firstly, applicants who have studied degrees in the same area of knowledge. Degrees that permit students to work in regulated professions, students who have started studying degrees that qualify students for the same profession have preference.
- In second place, applicants who have studied degrees from other areas of knowledge.
- After applying these criteria, the order in each group will be:
- The number of officially recognized credits
- The average grade as it appears on the academic transcript
- The reason for application (with proof): change of job; change of family address; elite and high-performance athletes; the existence of an accord with the university of origin; and other justified reasons.
- We do not accept applications where students will have to take subjects for which there are no teachers available because of the expiry of the related study plan. We do not accept applications from students who have failed one of the subjects of their original degree six times.
- All of the students admitted must study at least 30 credits of the new degree, as well as the corresponding final project (except for students with special circumstances that are duly accredited).
- Submit an APPLICATION addressed to the dean or director of the faculty or university school that offers the degree, with a statement specifying motives.
- The RESOLUTION of the admissions procedure will be published on the faculty or school’s website. This right to admission is only valid for the academic year following the application.
- The TRANSFER PROCEDURE takes place at the university or school of origin, depending on your specific case. If you are changing universities, you must pay the corresponding fees. If you studied at a foreign or private university, you must also pay to include the subjects from the original degree that the University has officially recognized on your academic transcript.
- ENROL on the degree you have gained admission to.
If you have already started university studies in your home country, you can request admission via partial convalidation (recognition that you have studied part of a degree).
You must apply for this to the dean of the faculty that offers the degree you want to
study.
The decision to admit you depends on these factors:
- The academic transcript you present should have the equivalent of a minimum of 60 credits, or the full first year of a university course. However, for degrees where there are more places than students, the minimum number of credits that can be validated is 15, or one subject.
- Your marks as they appear on the academic transcript.
The availability of places. Each faculty will publish this information at the start of the pre-enrolment proceedings.
- Requirements
- Documents required
- Where to submit documents
You can apply for convalidation if:
- You have not finished your official studies abroad
- You have finished your studies abroad and have applied for official recognition (homolgació) of these studies, but you have been denied.
- You have finished studies abroad but have not applied for their official recognition.
- You have finished studies abroad and you have applied for – or you have obtained – official recognition that your studies are equivalent to a generic academic degree.
- Application form (completed by the applicant).
- Proof of nationality: Passport; identity card or DNI (Spanish identity card).
- Official certificate of studies, including information on: the official duration, in academic years, of your studies; the subjects you studied; the total duration (in hours) of each subject; and your marks.
- The study programme of the subjects you studied, stamped by the university of origin.
A document that certifies that the university of origin is authorized by the higher education system of that country.
- A sworn affidavit (a signed declaration) that certifies that you have not requested official recognition.
- Any other documents you consider necessary to support your request.
The documents should be legal and translated in cases where the original is not written in an official language of the University of Valencia (Catalan or Spanish).
Send the application to the faculty that teaches the degree(s) that you want to study, before the deadline indicated by that faculty, and addressed to the faculty’s dean.
Schools & Faculties
Foreign students who already possess a university qualification from their country of origin should take the following steps:
- Official recognition of the university qualification
- How to do this (Spanish Ministry of Education)
- If the result of the official recognition is NOT a university degree, but the equivalent of a Spanish upper secondary education certificate (Bachillerato), the student will have to take some entry tests and follow the steps which are indicated in the preceding section (+Students who wish to begin studying a new degree who have studied secondary education in their country of origin)
- Pre-enrolment in the university in which the student wishes to study
- Students who obtain official recognition of their prior studies will be able to request a placement at a Spanish university in the quota reserved for students with university qualifications, according to the places offered by each university. University districts are bodies which group together all of the universities in one Spanish autonomous community in order to assign places. Each district establishes certain deadlines and creates forms with which to formalise the application. This information can be consulted on the following website: www.uv.es/admission during the pre-enrolment period (from the middle of June until the beginning of July, approximately).
These tests can be taken by anyone who does not fulfil the necessary requirements for admission and will be 25 years old before the 1st of October of the year in which the tests are carried out.
Characteristics:
- The five Valencian state universities constitute one pre-enrolment district. This means that it does not make a difference in which university the tests are taken.
- With their allocated mark, students can apply for a place in the degrees available at any of the Valencian universities, with preference being given to the degrees linked with the branch of knowledge chosen in the specific phase of this test.
- In the same manner, students can apply for a place at the rest of the universities/districts in the state, but they will not have preference over students who have taken the test at the university/district in question.
