Here is their latest message on Osman Murat Ulke, now on his eighth day of hunger strike in Mamak Military Prison :
22 October 1996 Dear friends
Osman's solitary confinement has finished today and he has been put in an isolation room. The difference between solitary confinement and an isolation room is that the first is dark and 2 metres square. The present isolation room has a bed and a light and there is no mouse in the room.
We don't know whether this is a pause before a new and a longer solitary confinement or not. We will see together in the following days.
He is continuing his hunger strike. His demand is either to be sent to a civil prison or to say with other prisoners in Mamak without wearing uniform. The basis of his argument is that he is a civilian and so cannot be sentenced to solitary confinement or isolation or anything else for refusing to wear a uniform.
Today was the 8th day of his hunger strike.
