A portrait of Anton Webern, by
Oskar Kokoschka (1912)

The musical works of Anton Webern are not easy to understand for most of the audience. Concentration of gestures, intellectual inaccessibility and heavy formal construction are characteristic of his music. But there is also, hidden inside this formalism, an intense feeling and a deep expression of passion, mystics and devotion to artistic work.
