Plans for an early October 2000 East Timor operation concentrating on the lower HF bands are underway by Dennis, K7BV. Made, YB9BV, and a well known USA Low Band operator (identity will be announced soon) will join Dennis in this effort to make 4W available on 40, 80 and 160 meters for over a week. Special antennas for the operation are being constructed at this time. QSL via KU9C. For up-to-date info, visit Dennis's Web page at: http://www.qth.com/k7bv/ 9A, CROATIA ISLANDS (IOCA activity). Be looking for new activity from Croatian islands starting this week. Operators Frane/9A5V, Fredi/9A5KV, Matko/9A3VM and perhaps Tom/9A2AA will activate the following islands between June 22nd and 25th: Misjak (CI-066, JN74OH), Pag (CI-082, JN74MK), Veliki i Mali Sikavac (CI-136, JN74OH), Vir (CI-141, JN74NH) and Zecevo (CI-147, JN74OH). All islands are also valid for IOTA, EU-136. They will be active on all bands and modes. QSL via home call. ADDED NOTE: Denis, 9A3ZG, reports that "IOCA Directories" will be available at the Croatian stand at the "25th HAM RADIO" convention in Friedrichshafen, Germany (June 22-24th). The cost of "Directory for The Islands of Croatia Award" is 10 USD or equivalent in DEM (20 DEM), and that covers the cost for the Basic Certificate. That means you don't have to pay for the Basic certificate when you have the Directory with your own number on it. In the Directory you will find both the full rules and the list of all islands for the award with their coordinates. AFRICAN TRIP. Maurice, ON4BAM, will be touring South Africa next month between July 21st and August 13th with his family. During the trip he will be active from the rental car with a "TS-50S" and "Outbacker Perth" antenna (and if possible dipole/wire). He will also make a short stop in Swaziland on July 26th and 27th. The callsigns are ZS/ON4BAM for South Africa and 3DA0MA for Swaziland. The 3DA license is confirmed but not yet in hand, and his ZS license is a CEPT. Activity will be on the follow- ing bands in that order depending on propagation: 15, 12, 17, 10, 20 meters. QSL to ON4BAM bureau (UBA only!!) or direct. DXCC NEWS. John Kanode, N4MM, reported this week that "On June 1, the 15 meter record column on your DXCC record was opened up and should appear on all records sent out from that date on. Some of you may already have records with the 15 meter info on them. On July 1, the Single band 15 meter award will be available. There is no rush to apply due to the fact that the 15 meter single band DXCC will be like the 20 meter one, they will not be numbered. The 15 meter single band DXCC totals will not be included in the De Soto Cup award this year. The De Soto Cup for this year will be the 160, 80, 40, 20, 10 and 6 meter totals. Hopefully 17 and 12 meters will be added somethime in 2001. It depends on the backlog at HQ. The ARRL staff checked 14,800 cards at Dayton. The new DXCC list is in production and should be available in late August or early September." ADDED NOTE: OPDX InterNet Subscriber will receive a copy of the actual press release by the League as an additional bulletin. C9, MOZAMBIQUE. Martin, LW9EUJ, will be traveling to South Africa on business in December, and he wants to activate C9 for a week or so which will included the ARRL 10 meter Contest. However, Martin would like to know who the authority is that issues ham radio licenses so he can get the appropiate authorization to operate from Mozambique. If you can help him, please send an E-mail to him at: lw9euj@ciudad.com.ar DL/HB9/HB0, GERMANY, SWITZERLAND AND LIECHTENSTEIN. Chris, OE8CIQ, will be on a holiday trip to southern Germany and will operate as DL/OE8CIQ/p and HB9/OE8CIQ/p between June 17th and 26th. He will be active for a few hours as HB0/OE8CIQ/p from Liechtenstein on Sunday, June 18th and Sunday, June 25th. Chris will use an Alinco DX-70 (about 100 Watts) and a multi- band vertical antenna. The QSL cards are 100% sure via his home call either direct or via the bureau. His direct address: Christian Irrasch, Nikolaistr. 16, A-9330 Althofen, Austria. IOTA NEWS................... AF-054. Remember to look for Bert, PA3GIO, as 5H3/PA3GIO on Mafia Island now through June 24th. QSL via the bureau to PA3GIO. AF-063. After his operation from AF-054, look for Bert, PA3GIO, as 5H1/PA3GIO from Pemba Island where he will be active until the beginning of July. QSL via bureau to PA3GIO. AS-023. This will not be a DXpedition, and he will operate during his spare time. Suggested frequensies are: 14260+/-10kHz, or 21260+/-10kHz. QSL via only the Bureau. EU-008. Dr. Jorge Fernandez Devesa, EC1BXI, informs OPDX that he will provide medical service to the residents of Ons Island (IDEA EA1-1-3) and operate as EF1ONS (QRP) during July 1-30th. He is not sure if he will be on the air daily; that depends on his patients. However, he does report to look for him on 21200 kHz (QRP) with his old Yaesu FT-7 at 1400 or 2000z. He will also operate on 10/15/40/80 meters, however his callsign/license is not full band permitted. He is only allowed to be active on the following range of frequencies: CW/SSB - 28900-29100, 21150-21200 and 3600-3700 kHz CW - 28100-28150, 21100-21150, 7020-7030 and 3550-3600 kHz Other operators at ED1ONS may be active on other bands and frequencies with full license privileges on HF/VHF/UHF. These operators will operate with 100 watts mostly. In August, Jorge will move to the Cies Islands. He will be on the island called Monteagudo (or also called North Cies). He will operate again from this island and also provide medical service. This will be his second operation from Cies. (Last was in August 1999 as ED1OTA). He will use the same callsign ED1OTA, and possibly also EF1OTA and run QRP, but remember his band restrictions. Possibly his operations may be solar powered during some moments.... because electric power is not guaranteed for 24 hours. If possible, he will try later in August to operate from the Isla Sur Cies, or San Martin (Southern Cies Island). These islands have never been on the air before, and they also count as EU-080 and IDEA EA1-1-2 (New one for IDEA award). QSL via Jorge Fernandez Devesa, P.O.Box 54, 36980O Grove, (Pontevedra) SPAIN,EUROPE for both operations. Also, he is a member of the EA-QRP CLUB, so the QRP operators can send QSL via their QRP Clubs. This is the only bureau he belongs to. EU-062. Hans, SM3TLG, will be active as LA/SM3TLG from Helligvaer Islands now through June 20th. Activity will be CW/SSB. QSL to homecall direct or via the bureau. EU-076. There is a possibility that Hans, SM3TLG, will be active as LA/SM3TLG from Lofoten Islands June 21-23rd (after his EU-062 operation). QSL to homecall direct or via the bureau. EU-157. Beginning June 1, 2000, DXCC printouts have been set to reflect credits on 15 meters. The start date for the new 15 meter DXCC award will be July 1, 2000. 15 Meter DXCC certificates will be dated but not numbered. Deleted entities do not count towards this award. Those who have an active 5 Band DXCC which was processed prior to DXCC computerization and do not have 100 entities in the computer (on 15 meters) will be allowed to submit enough credits on that band to bring the computerized record to the first 100 needed for this award with no per QSO fee. Simply include postage and the award fee. The award fee is $10. Please note your 5 Band DXCC award number and original issue date on the application form in the block specified. If you do not know what credits you have on 15 meters, you should contact DXCC for an updated report, prior to submitting further credits. This will help both you and DXCC in that it will avoid duplicates and additional costs, since QSL costs over the limits noted in DXCC Rule #15 are $0.15 per QSO. If you have web access and can handle ADOBE (.pdf) files, contact DXCC at dxcc@arrl.org for a copy of your record. If you do not have web access, please send a note to DXCC along with $1.50 for postage or an SASE with $1.50 in postage. If you have not submitted since the later portion of 1991, your records are not in the computer, and an SASE with valid postage is required for a hard copy. One would be hard pressed to find someone who thinks that amateur radio contesting is a spectator sport. There does not appear to be much excitement in sitting back, tuning a receiver across the bands and listening to others participate in a contest. The exception might be stopping to listen to a gifted operator run through a string of contacts like a fine-tuned machine, while at the same time he or she introduces a noticeably human aspect into the fun through greetings to friends and newcomers alike. We do have one event, however, that is definitely worth "watching" -- the World Radiosport Team Championship. The championship is held every four years as an Olympic-style gathering of the best of the best contest operators from around the world. This year, some 106 operators from every corner of the world will converge on Bled, Slovenia in southern Europe to compete for the Bronze, Silver and Gold team medals. Those medals will proclaim which best of the best teams have risen to the top of the pile during the week of competitive operating events. In addition to the actual competitors, hundreds of other contesters and interested amateur radio operators will be present to support the event, their favorite team or just immerse themselves in the glow of camaraderie that will prevail throughout the action-packed week. Although WRTC 2000 will not be covered in the international news media networks, you really won't need their coverage to follow the action in Bled. Instead, all you need to enjoy the energy of this historic event is an amateur radio low band radio and a computer. Use the computer to visit this site daily. The National Contest Journal will provide increasingly frequent in-depth coverage of WRTC 2000, peaking during the actual competition. We will naturally focus a bit more on the teams coming from this side of the Atlantic, but our coverage will include stories of interest to contesters around the world. You can actually participate in the main event that will be used to determine whom the winners are. Just get on the air during the July 8-9 IARU HF Championship and make a contact with every unique "S5" call sign (see below) you hear on SSB and CW. The operators behind those call signs are the fellows making their final run for the Gold. They will be eagerly seeking to log every one of you! Have your signals heard in Slovenia, Europe, July 8-9, during WRTC 2000! Get on the air Saturday - Sunday, July 8-9, and be a Good Neighbor, by making QSOs in the World Radiosport Team Championship. Fifty-three stations, all in Slovenia, but operated by two-ham teams from around the world, will be operating for 24 hours. They will be looking for you on 80-10 meters on CW and SSB, so please work them all! For the purpose of the contest "SEANET" stations are defined as those operating from the following ITU zones. ITU Zone 41 - 4S7,8Q7,A5,AP,S2,VQ9,VU,VU(Laccadive) 42 - 9N,B/BY 43 - B/BY 44 - BV,B/BY,HL,P5,VR2,XX9 45 - JA,JD1(Ogasawara) 49 - 3W,E2,HS,XU,XV,XW,XY,XZ,VU(Andaman), 50 - 1S,9M0(Spratly),DU 51 - H4,P29,YB 54 - 9M2,9M6,9V1,V8,VK9C,VK9X,YB 55 - VK,VK9W 56 - 3D2,FK,VK9M,YJ 58 - VK 59 - VK 60 - VK0(Maacquarie Is)VK0M,VKOL,VK9N,ZL,ZL7,ZL8,ZL9 64 - T8,KC6,KH0,KH2, 65 - C2,KH9,T2,T30,T33,V6,V7 90 - JD1(Minami Torishima) The DXCC Entity list for multiplier scoring purposes is: 1S/9M0(Spratly),3D2,3W/XV,4S7,8Q7,9M2,9M6,9M8, 9N,9V1,A5,AP,B/BY,BV,C2,DU/DT/4F,FK,H4,HL,HS/E2, JA,JD1(Minami Torishima),JD1,KC6,KH0,KH2,KH9,P5, P29,S2,T2,T30,T33,T8,V6,V7,V8,VK,VK0L,VK0M,VK9C, VK9M,VK9N,VK9W,VK9X,VQ9,VR2,VU,VU(Andaman), VU(Laccadive),VU,XU,XW,XX,XY/XZ,YB/YC,YJ,ZL,ZL7, ZL8,ZL9, 9. SCORING: For contacts between WORLD-WIDE and SEANET Stations = 10 points. For contacts between SEANET stations in DIFFERENT SEANET countries/entities = 10 points. For contacts between SEANET stations in the SAME country/entity = 5 points. Each DXCC Country/Entity worked counts as a multiplier, but only counts once regardless of band or mode. A multiplier can be claimed for working your own country, but QSO points cannot be claimed except for contacts between stations within a SEANET country/entity. Note - for mixed-mode entries QSO points can be claimed with the same station on each of the three modes, and for multi-band entries - QSO points can be claimed for QSOs with the same station on different bands. Note that only one contact per mode is allowed on each band with the same station. E.g. A "Voice" mode contact can only be made once per band with the same station. SSB or FM can be used for the contact, but points cannot be claimed for an SSB and an FM contact with the same station. Similarly on digital, any digital mode can be used to make a digital mode contact with the same station, but points cannot be claimed for more than one digital mode with the same station. Scores should be calculated as follows: For single-band entries: multiply total QSO points x total multipliers. E.g.. 10 QSOs x 10 points = 100 QSO points x 2 mults = 200 Points. For multi-band entries: Add QSO points for all bands then add the unique multipliers. multiply total QSO points by total multipliers. (multipliers count like the WPX Contest i.e.. once only, and not once per band, and not once per mode) A sample log is shown to illustrate how multi-band scores are claimed: Duplicate contacts and comments are included to clarify rules. For World-Wide Station - multi-band, multi-mode (Example DL1AA): Date Time Mode Band Call-sign Out In Points Mult (Comments) 1300 Voice 20m 9V1UV 59001 59001 10 1 SSB 1302 V 15m 9V1UV 59002 59003 10 0 SSB 1304 V 15m JA1AB 59003 59001 10 1 SSB 1305 V 15m JQ1TPJ 59004 59001 10 0 SSB 1307 CW 15m JS7OBJ 599006 599001 10 0 1308 CW 15m 9V1UV 599007 599007 10 0 1309 CW 15m DL1ZAV 599008 599008 0 1 own country mult 1310 CW 15m DL8UI - - 0 0 duplicate mult 1320 V 10m VK2BJ 59009 59027 10 1 FM 1321 V 10m VK2BJ - - 0 0 SSB - mode dupe 1320 Digi 20m JA1UT 599010 599030 10 0 AMTOR 1322 D 20m JA1UT - - 0 0 RTTY-mode dupe 1333 D 20m 9V1UV 599011 599015 10 0 RTTY 1340 CW 20m 9V1UV 599012 599016 10 0 For SEANET Station - multi-band, multi-mode (Example 9M6MU) Date Time Mode Band Call-Sign Out In Points Mult (Comments) 1300 CW 10m W6AA 599001 599001 10 1 1301 CW 10m W7OM 599002 599001 10 0 Mult dupe 1303 CW 10m JR0CGJ 599003 599002 10 1 1303 V 10m JR0CGJ 599004 599003 10 0 FM 1304 D 10m JR0CGJ 599005 599004 10 0 RTTY 1306 V 10m JR0CGJ 599006 599005 0 0 SSB-V mode dupe 1307 D 15m JR0CGJ 599007 599006 10 0 PactorII 1308 D 15m 9M6ST 599008 599001 5 1 Own-country mult 1310 V 15m 9M6BZ 599009 599002 5 0 mult-dupe,pts only 1311 V 10m 9M2ZA 59010 59001 10 1 1312 CW 10m 9M2ZA 599011 599003 10 0 mult-dupe,pts only 10. The decision of the SEANET contest organisers shall be final. All stations may use Internet or Packet Cluster "Spotting". Multi-band, multi-operator stations must not use more than one transmitter/transceiver at the same time for contacts, except that a second receiver/transceiver may be used for "spotting" only. The "spotting" station must not transmit or make any kind of contact. 11. ENTRIES, LOGS AND SUMMARY SHEETS: All entries should be in the form of written or computerised logs and summary sheets showing claimed scores band by band plus the total score claimed must be signed by the person responsible for the entry. Entries made on computer diskettes or by Email should use ASCII(text) format. Information required is: Date, Time (GMT/UTC), Band, Mode(CW/V/D), Report sent (RS([T]),Serial # sent, Report Received (RS[T}), Serial # Received, claimed QSO points, claimed multipliers. Multipliers should be listed. Entries can be Emailed to <g3nom@ibm.net> Entries should be received not later than 31st October 2000. Results will be announced at the SEANET 2000 Convention, Montien Hotel, in Pattaya, Thailand 18th November 2000, and will be published on the SEANET Web Site <www.seanet2000.com>: and the RAST Web Site: <www.qsl.net/RAST>, If you require a result slip, please enclose 3 irc's together with your entry.
