ALLC / ACH

The 2000 joint annual conference of the Association for Computers and the Humanities and the Association for Literary and Linguistic Computing will take place from July 21st-25th at the University of Glasgow in Scotland. 
The Association for Literary and Linguistic Computing was founded in 1973 with the purpose of supporting the application of computing in the study of language and literature. 
The Association for Computers and the Humanities is the major international professional organization for people working in computer-aided research in humanities disciplines. 
As the range of available and relevant computing techniques and methodologies has increased, the interests of the Associations members have broadened to encompass not only text analysis, markup and language corpora, but also image processing, digital editions, management and preservation of digital resources, and humanities computing as a discipline. 

The 1999 joint annual conference was in Charlottesville, Virginia. 

Associated Workshops

 
These workshops will take place before the conference. There is a discount in the registration fee for ALLC/ACH 2000 if you have already registered for CIMQL-III or SFW.

CIMQL
Techniques from disciplines such as computer science, artificial intelligence and statistics bring more advanced methods of analysis to the fields of quantitative linguistics, stylometry and stylistics. The Computationally-Intensive Methods in Quantitative Linguistics (CIMQL) workshops are designed to introduce the participants to such techniques in a practical environment, with introductory lectures followed by workshops using software for practical examples. 

SFW
The Department of English Language will host workshops on Systemic Functional Linguistics, Computing and Corpus Studies, University of Glasgow, July 19-22 2000. 

ACH Tutorials on XML, XML Query Languages and XSL. Thursday 20th July 2000.
