Developing Your Manuscript
THE REVIEW PROCESSWhen the first draft and any subsequent drafts of the manuscript are sent to your editor, they will be sent out for reviews. Reviewers are your colleagues, individuals who teach the course for which you are writing the text, or your fellow professionals in a discipline. If appropriate, they will be experts in a particular area. Their feedback is crucial in determining whether your text will be well-received in the marketplace, since these same colleagues will eventually be making decisions about whether or not to adopt your text. The
number of reviews and rounds of reviews will be determined by your editor.
You can expect to receive reviews from six to eight weeks after you submit
your draft manuscript. When reviews are returned to you, you will receive
some guidance from your series editor about how to respond to the reviews.
All reviewers' comments should be considered, but not every suggestion
can be adopted or acted upon; if you have questions about your reviews,
consult your editor.
