You should use HTML translation programs, when available, to automatically generate HTML versions of documents that you publish on paper. For example, if you currently publish a newsletter, brochure, or other document in Microsoft Word, use Word's Save As HTML feature (on the File menu) to generate the HTML version of that document. If you do not have the latest version of Microsft Word, or you are using another word processing program, the RTFtoHTML translator also works very well, provided that you are using the proper styles.
Use HTML editors to create documents that will exist only in HTML. For example, you would use an editor to create your index.html file and other such files.

Microsoft Office and the Web includes instructions for configuring MS Office 2000 so that it creates the most browser-friendly HTML that can be generated automatically. The results still sometimes need to be edited the same way you would edit any other Web page.
- Office 97 and 98 applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) each have a Save As HTML command on the File menu (see figure below). This command translates the document to HTML format. See sample translations from Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. These translations were created using the Save As HTML feature in Office 97. If the translation is not perfect, edit the translated HTML document the same way you would edit any Web page. Office 98 for the Macintosh has similar translation commands.
