General Introduction to the course.
Proposed Readings and Work plan.
Instructor:  Dr. Vicente Forés López

This course introduces students to the literary tradition and historical context of XIX century Spain.  We will pay special attention to two fundamental currents: Romanticism and Realism. The study and analysis of the texts will also include the artistic and social context. Out of the endless canon we will deal in-depth with some of the most outstanding texts and authors only.

Grading System:
Midterm Exam                                                              20%
Comprehensive Final Exam                                          25%
Two Reports (4-5 pages each, 20% each)                     40%
Homework and Class Work                                          15%

(oral reports, quizzes, attendance and participation will all be evaluated through on-line tests and Blackboard).

The midterm and final examinations will be made up of short identifications, short answer sections and textual commentary.
The final exam will contain an essay question.
Please note that the final exam is comprehensive, that is, it takes in the entire course.
