Abstract:

This seminar will address the inter-relationship between drama and nation. We hope to attract a broad range of papers exploring the impact on Renaissance and early modern drama of historic and cultural exchanges between England and Spain. This will include questions relating to national identities, comparative studies of significant plays and cross-cultural influences on dramatic aesthetics and theatre production. Papers might also consider how political and religious pressures of the period shaped the representation of the 'other' in both Spanish and English drama.
