El malestar social por el desempleo. El rol del psicólogo en tiempos de crisis
El descontento o malestar social puede entenderse como una situación política en la que la gente protesta o se comporta violentamente. El malestar social se inicia cuando los ciudadanos no están satisfechos con las reglas, regulaciones y políticas. Hay muchos desencadenantes del descontento social, entre ellos la recesión económica, que es el que ahora mismo está presente en nuestra sociedad y que lleva consigo situaciones de desempleo y crisis financieras. En este contexto es fácil advertir una disminución de la autoestima de la población en general, lo que está vinculado al aumento de enfermedades psicológicas y físicas.

La recesión económica estimula la actual dirección de RRHH, que exige la renovación de prácticas y se acerca a favorecer una futura “recuperación” del mercado laboral. Mientras que el nuevo modelo de RRHH permanece abierto a serias críticas, la gestión de RRHH da la bienvenida a las nuevas TIC e integra los medios de comunicación cada vez más en el área social. Al mismo tiempo, las complejidades crecientes en el trabajo, hacen buscar a las compañías expertos muy cualificados y con competencias muy específicas.

SIOP's 28th annual conference was a remarkable event to showcase the Impact that we I-O psychologists make on the world, and to give us all an opportunity to learn and connect so we can continue to increase that impact in the future.
This year took place in Houston. The Conference offered symposia, practitioner forums, panel presentations, posters, and other sessions that featured a wide range of workplace issues. As the culminating event for SIOP members, the annual conference provided an outstanding experience once again this year, with presentations focusing on every aspect of industrial-organizational psychology.

A WOP student’s experience at the SIOP conference by:
Andy Ross As part of my Erasmus Mundus Master in Work, Organizational and Personnel Psychology degree, I am completing my internship period at Organization & Management Solutions (OMS) in Guelph, Canada. Being situated in North America, it was an obvious decision that the SIOP Conference held from April 11-13, represented a great opportunity to familiarize myself with the I/O Psychology state of art in North America. Decision taken, flight booked and off I went to Houston, USA to attend the conference.

It all started with an e-mail. "EM students consider attending to SIOP conference", said the subject title. In the body of the message, Gloria Gonzalez-Morales, our coordinator at the University of Guelph (UoG), has explained that this is a good way to create contacts and explore the Northern American trends in I/O psychology (that's how they call WOP psychology there). Even though it seemed like a good idea, the costs were quite high. Nevertheless, I wanted to know more. So at the 6th WOP-P Winterschool dedicated to Bernhard Wilpert, I talked with Thomas Sasso, Ashlyn Patterson and Dan Van Der Werf, visiting students from UoG and asked them about the conference.

Justine Massu I attended the SIOP annual conference principally because of peer pressure and curiosity about what Houston, Texas really looks like. On my way there, the man seated next to me in the plane noticed the research I was reading and started to talk to me. It appears that he was one of the first researchers that highlighted the work-family conflict and that my research thesis was partially based on his work.
