Kjell R. Bjørklund is a micropaleontologist, specializing in Quaternary and Tertiary radiolarian taxonomy and biostratigraphy. He received his degree in Marine biology from the University of Bergen in 1972. He is currently focusing on the climatic evolution of the North Atlantic during the last 3 million years, as well as the radiolarian fauna in the Arctic Ocean with special attention to morphology and speciation. The radiolarian fauna in Norwegian fjords has been studied both from an ecological and taxonomical point of view. A better understanding of the relationship between radiolarians is under development through molecular techniques. DNA sequences from radiolarians and their associates are being investigated.
