La profesora Berrin Erdogan (Portland State University) impartirá diversos seminarios durante su visita a la Universidad de Valencia (21 de Marzo al 1 de Abril). El seminario constará de varias sesiones cuyas temáticas principales serán: (1) Leadership and leader-subordinate relationships, (2) Underemployment and Person-environment fit, y (3) How to write a good scientific paper.
El acto tendrá lugar en el Salón de Actos de la Facultad de Psicología de la Universidad de Valencia.
Proposed Seminar (session 1): Leadership and leader-subordinate relationships.
Leader member exchange theory proposes that the relationships leaders form with their employees constitute the cornerstone of leadership. Originating in 1970’s, the LMX theory is one of the most influential and cross culturally validated theories of leadership. The proposed seminar will highlight the origins of the theory, compare the theory to other contemporary approaches to leadership such as transformational leadership, servant leadership, and authentic leadership, will discuss the unique contributions of the theory to the literature, and will identify future research directions in this area. The seminar will discuss factors contributing to relationship development, as well as implications of the theory for employee performance, citizenship behaviors, absenteeism, and turnover. We will also cover how leader-member exchanges will influence effective management of teams within organizations.
Proposed seminar (session 2): Underemployment and Person-environment fit.
The literature on person-environment fit highlights the importance of person-job and person-organization fit in determining employee attitudes and work behaviors. In this seminar, we will discuss the most current thinking in person-environment fit literature, including how fit is conceptualized, and how organizations can ensure high levels of fit in during employee selection and socialization process. Furthermore, we will discuss underemployment as a unique type of person job misfit. As employee education and skill levels increase, individuals may find themselves in a situation where they are underemployed, or overqualified, overskilled, and overeducated. We will discuss health outcomes of underemployment, as well as implications of overqualification for employee job attitudes, performance, and turnover.
