About Us

Summary of action

EBEN is a Scientific-Technical Network in behavioral and experimental economics. The Network articulates a set of nodes composed by a research groups. These groups are very competitive in terms of publications and funding. The network aims to develop a series of activities to enhance collaboration among the different nodes of the network. This goal will be arised thought four areas: conferences (national and international), mobility (internal and external), and visibility of research and coverage of crosscutting needs.

Overall objectives

The general objectives of the network are:

1) To facilitate the exchange and the transference of knowledge among the nodes.
2) To reinforce the leadership position of the Spanish centers on the field of Experimental and Behavior Economics.
3) To Foster the convergence of the research in order to facilitate the participation of the international network of excellence calls.
4) To improve the visibility and renown of the Net's Research areas.
5) To optimize the use of current scientific and technological infrastructure.

Research activities of the network nodes

In the last years, the level of cooperativeness among the nodes has increase. This behavior has led to have joint research and joint projects. The different nodes have different lines of research although connected ones with each others. The multidisciplinary research interest and the collaboration among members have help to improve the quality of the research that is conducting in the EBEN.

Permanent scientific facilities built by the EBEN

EBEN is composed of 14 researchers who are based in 9 different centers. Seven out nine have their own laboratory, what make the EBEN to have the most sophisticated scientific facilities of all Spanish economic research. In total the centers have more than a thousand computers in networks and servers permanently dedicated to do research.

Why EBEN?

The EBEN has a clear thematic nature. The joining element of the nodes is its dedication to research in experimental and behavioral economics. Experimental economics is a discipline that emerged over 40 years in the U.S. to develop both basic and applied research.

Experimental economics can be defined using a famous quote from Nobel Prize in economics Reinhard Selten as "the art of generating empirical evidence." This evidence is obtained experimentally using a controlled environment (a laboratory experimental) where human subjects (students or employees of any qualifications) make decisions with financial incentives in different environments.

Experimental economics is a complex technique that requires access to an unusual set of resources in social sciences. This feature makes absolutely necessary the collaboration of professionals from various fields to enable the generation of robust evidence. EBEN network seeks to achieve such coordination to their different nodes covering a series of cross-cutting needs that can't be covered by their individual programs.
