Microbiology. All Rights Reserved.): Subcellular localization in budding
yeast cells of the opportunistic fungal pathogen Candida albicans of
the product of ABG1, a new and essential gene of this fungus,
encoding a vacuolar protein (Abg1p). The ABG1 gene product was
localized by its previous fusion with the green fluorescent protein (GFP) of
Aequorea victoria. Fluorescence emitted by the fusion polypeptide
(Abg1p-GFP) was exclusively localized on the membranous surface of vacuolar
compartments. The cells were additionally stained with calcofluor white, a
fluorescent dye (blue fluorescence) that specifically stains fungal cell
walls. Cells were examined on wet mounts with a Leica DMR fluorescence
