The Universitat de València will be holding on 8 July at the Espacio Vives (Blasco Ibáñez Campus) the institutional presentation of the Chair for Climate Change, Territory and Environmental Risks in the Mediterranean, directed by Ana Camarasa and Joan Romero, full-time university professors of the Universitat de València and both pertaining to the Department of Geography of the Faculty of Geography and History.
The Chair, a space for reflection and scientific transfer dedicated to face the great environmental and territorial challenges of the Mediterranean area within a context of climate crises, is defined by a strong commitment to scientific knowledge, social responsibility and institutional cooperation.
Their main goal is to analyse and disseminate the climate change impacts on the territory, people and Mediterranean economies, offering useful tools for the decision-making through an Observatory and a documentation centre that makes studies, reports and risk cartographies available for public administrations, private institutions, social agents and citizens in general.
In the act two recent works linked to the area will be presented:
- Evidencias científicas, efectos, estrategias y políticas públicas sobre cambio climático y territorio en el Mediterráneo Ibérico (UV Publications Service)
- Cambio Climático y territorio en el Mediterráneo Ibérico (Tirant lo Blanch Editorial)
Both books are directed and coordinated by professors Joan Romero and Ana Camarasa, full university professors of the UV and also directors of the new Chair.
The books take the main conclusions of the 1st Conference by Experts about Climate change and territory, held on 2025, that aspires to be the first of a series of biennial conferences about the problem of climate change in the Mediterranean territories.
