On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Corian, the solid-surface material, the scientific corporation DuPont presents the exhibition Corian: 40 Years - 40 Designers at the University of Valencia. The show includes designer pieces produced with this material by 40 designers from all over the world.

Designers have significantly contributed to the evolution of Corian, experimenting with it and finding new ways of applying its many properties. Corian: 40 Years - 40 Designers acknowledges their past and current work in the interpretation of this material.

Rotating round tray made with 13 mm thick CorianŽ, different diameters: 60, 50 and 40 cm.

Colourful centrepiece inspired in Don Quixote’s helmet. The technique used is called “trencadis”, developed in Valencia in the Modernist period.

After travelling to Milan, London, Paris, Prague, Frankfurt, Barcelona, Stockholm, Bordeaux, New York, Sydney and Belgrade, the exhibition is now presented at Universitat de Valčncia.

The challenge faced by the selected designers was to create trays or other tableware making the most of CorianŽ special properties. Apparently seamless and highly mouldable, by means of thermoforming or casting techniques, CorianŽ can be grooved and engraved with CNC machinery, or printed by sublimation technology. Available in 100 colours including pure whites and intense solids, the material has natural translucence in lighter shades when backlit with natural or artificial light.

In the microcosm created by Corian: 40 Years – 40 Designers, the never-ending possibilities of CorianŽ are demonstrated in both practical and aesthetic terms. The material can be turned into almost anything... It is fun but also serious, calmed, ethereal, sophisticated... at the same time its simplicity and sensuality make it universally attractive. This really multi-cultural material is used in numerous and different ambiences in many countries worldwide, as proved by the internationality of the 40 designers and the diversity of the exhibits. From stackable trays and elegant centrepieces to jigsaw puzzles and other accessories, all objects have a specific purpose.

Based on origami, Nenen is a centrepiece consisting of imaginary folds on a 40x40cm CorianŽ piece. This object can be used in two ways, as a base for other objects or as a fruit bowl, bread basket or flower vase.

Ever since it was launched in the United States back in 1967, CorianŽ gradually evolved into a design material with growing and innovative applications both at home and in hotels, restaurants and all types of public areas. Designers have significantly contributed to its evolution by experimenting with it and finding new ways of applying its many features. “40 Years - 40 Designers” acknowledges the artists’ past and current work in their interpretation of this material.

Invented by the Research and Development laboratories of DuPont, and exclusively produced by the company, CorianŽ (www.corian.com.es) is used in a wide range of furniture and special commercial and residential applications. The pore-free, stain-proof material is used on solid surfaces. It is easy to clean, renewable, repairable, translucent in some colours, and has a long life. Available in around 100 colours, CorianŽ can virtually take the shape of any design. Scratches can be easily repaired, its beauty and colour uniformity not being damaged.

DuPont ( www.dupont.es ) is a scientific corporation.  Set up in 1802, DuPont provide new sustainable and essential solutions through science so that everybody can have a better, safer and healthier life. With operations in more than 70 countries, DuPont offer a wide range of innovative products and services to different industries:  agriculture, nutrition, electronics, communications, safety and protection, housing and construction, transport, and clothing.
