The exhibition Childhood and War. Where whales fly
between clouds intends to show drawings, poems and
stories created by children who have fallen victim to
abuse or neglect caused by declared or undeclared armed
conflicts. The exhibition
includes almost 100 drawings made by children from the
Horn of Africa (Sudan, Ethiopia and Somalia),
Palestine, Colombia (evicted to Santafé de Bogotá D.C.
and Comunidad de Paz de San José de Apartadó), and some
from the Spanish Civil War and World War II (Terezin
Ghetto). |

Childhood and War. Where whales fly between clouds
is a testimony full of sensitivity and creativity, and
an example of the tenacity of its protagonists. Under
the current or past influence of horror, through their
innocent look, the children’s paintings or writings are
a way of transforming sorrow and isolation into hope and
renewal.

Undoubtedly, the exhibition's main goal is to contribute
to raising awareness about the devastating effects of
war conflicts on children which, in most cases, lead to
abandonment, the distructuring of families and education
processes, and the physical extermination of the child
population. A number of round
tables, lectures, films and teaching workshops targeted
at children have been organised, parallel to the
exhibition of drawings. |

DRAWINGS, TEREZIN GHETTO
A series of drawings and poems created by
children at Tezarin Ghetto during World War II. This
fortress was built by the Nazi as temporary housing. It
was never intended as an extermination camp but it was
used as a prison for many people who were later sent to
concentration camps, where they were executed. These
exhibits come from the book I never saw another
butterfly... published by the Jewish Museum in
Prague.
