Seminar on the Impact of Cultural and Creative Sectors on Canary Islands' Well-being

Last Friday, November 15, at 11:00 a.m., the Boardroom of the Faculty of Economics, Business, and Tourism at the University of La Laguna hosted the research seminar titled "The Impact of Cultural and Creative Sectors on the Well-being of the Canary Islands’ Population."

The seminar was led by Jordi Sanjuán Belda, Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Economics at the Universitat de València and a member of the ECONCULT research unit. Prof. Sanjuán, who holds a Master’s in Economic Policy and Public Economics and a PhD in Social Sciences from the Universitat de València, shared his expertise as a cultural economics consultant for Culturalink and a quantitative analyst at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre. The event also featured a presentation by Tony R. Murphy, Co-director of the Culture, Development, and Territory Chair at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and General Director of the technical office for Las Palmas’ bid to become the European Capital of Culture 2031. Murphy, an expert in cultural policy and strategic planning, provided key insights into cultural development in the Canary Islands. This seminar, organized by the Center for Studies on Social Inequality and Governance (Cedesog) at the University of La Laguna, was supported by the Canary Islands Government and the Canary Islands Institute for Cultural Development (ICDC). The event highlighted the vital role of cultural and creative sectors as drivers of development and well-being in the Canary Islands.
