AULA | Culture as an Impact Sector: Impact Investment, an Opportunity for the Cultural Economy

Wednesday, April 2, from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM
Online activity with prior registration at info@fundaciongabeiras.org

On Wednesday, April 2, the final session of the "Classrooms/Aulas to Innovate the Financing Model of Culture" series will take place at the La Nau Cultural Center of the University of Valencia. This initiative is organized by the Gabeiras Foundation and The Pipe – Impact Investment, in collaboration with Gabeiras and supported by the Ministry of Culture through European Union aid under Next Generation EU. This session is also held in partnership with Econcult (the Research Unit in Cultural and Tourism Economics) and the Cultural Observatory of UV.

This series is part of a broader project aimed at creating a Cultural Impact Investment Fund. Previous sessions have addressed essential topics such as why culture should attract impact investment and the importance of measuring sustainability impacts in the cultural sector, with reporting being a key element for the impact economy.

The premise is that current financial tools and opportunities in the cultural sector do not fully meet the needs of its business fabric. Therefore, updating the cultural economy framework is deemed necessary.

In this context, the Department of Applied Economics at the University of Valencia is conducting a study analyzing financing demands within the cultural sector, focusing on audiovisuals, performing arts, and live music. This study identifies unmet needs and challenges in cultural financing. Preliminary conclusions about available resources and proposals for a new cultural economy will be presented during this session.

The event will feature Jordi Sanjuan and Diego Muñoz, professors from the Department of Applied Economics at UV. The session will be introduced by Ester Alba Pagán, Vice-Rector for Culture and Society at UV, and moderated by Patricia Gabeiras (director and founding partner of Gabeiras) and Pau Rausell (tenured professor of Applied Economics at UV).
