The past Thursday, June 6th 2019, Researchers Eduard Borràs and Pau Bosch from the LEITAT Technological Centre (Terrassa) gave a seminar on bio-electrochemical systems at the Universitat de València’s Burjassot-Paterna Campus.

This seminar is part of the training activities carried out by the Chair for Integral Management and Resource Recovery of Wastewater (DAM Chair), aimed at both master’s degree and doctorate students and professionals in the field of water treatment.

Firstly, Researchers Eduard Borràs and Pau Bosch presented the basics of this emerging technology, where electrochemistry and microbiology are combined to turn wastewater into a resource. They later addressed the potential applications of these systems, among which they highlighted bioremediation, the production of value-added chemical compounds or fuels and the wastewater resource recovery such as nitrogen. Finally, the two researchers exposed some of the projects related to bio-electrochemical techniques that are currently being carried out at the technological centre. The seminar concluded with a question-and-answer session where attendees posed various questions related to the applicability of these techniques on an industrial level.
