NEUROIMMUNITY

Recent research lay bare a connection between the neuroimmune system and the opioidergic system. Nonetheless, we are far from knowing how this relationship works and which role it plays in neuropsychiatric disorders. In this sense, our lab is interested in unravelling how part of opioidergic system, concretely Mu-Opioid Receptors (MORs), interacts with immune cells and processes within the mesocorticolimbic system (MCLS), which is pivotal to understand the neural mechanisms of some pain-induced comorbidities such as drug use disorders. In this sense, we focus on microglia and MORs interactions both in vitro and in vivo.
