Prof. Can Aktan

Brief bio-statement:

Dr. Coskun Can Aktan is Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Management, Dokuz Eylul University, member of the Trustee Board at Yasar University. He has also served as consultant to the Telecommunications Authority, a regulatory body in Turkey, between 2003-2005, and serves now as one of the advisors of the Health Minister.

Professor Aktan is a prolific writer and a regular contributor to scholarly journals. His research ranges across several fields with an special interest in the organization of governments and markets from a Public Choice perspective as well as in globalization issues. Two of his recent books are (English translation): Management in the Era of Change, Istanbul: Sistem Yayýnlarý, 2004, and Globalization: Is it Threat or Opportunity? Istanbul: Zaman Kitabevi, 2004.

His interest in globalization issues has also lead him to business and event tourism. He has been the main person responsible of the organization of several international academic conferences. For 2009 he organizes the following conferences:

- 2nd International Conference on Social Sciences (ICSS), which will be held in English language in Izmir-Turkey.

- International Conference on eGovernment and eGovernance to be held in English language in Ankara, Turkey.

- 2nd Annual Business, Management and Economics Conference in Turkish language.

He has been visiting scholar at several international research centers and universities including the Center for Study of Public Choice, the Economics Department of the University of California (UCLA), the International Social Sciences Institute of the University of Edinburgh and the Institut für Allgemeine für Wirtschaftsforschung  of the University of Freiburg (Germany). He is founder and chairman of Social Sciences Research Society (SOSRES).
