**''III Soil moisture from passive microwaves (SMOS)''**

III.1. Microwave L-band characterization of natural vegetation (Mediterranean ecosystem species)

III.2. Retrieval algorithm (collaboration with INRA-Bordeaux)

III.3. Development of a reliable soil moisture network

SMnetwork.gif
Distribution of soil moisture probes over a 10 x 10 km2 zone within the Valencia Anchor Station area according to land use and soil type (still under construction).
The probes are communicated to main antennas (at V1 and M4) and to a PC accessible via internet

III.4. Mapping soil moisture from point measurements

III.5. Hydrological models (collaboration with Jucar River Authority)

SMsimulation1.gif
SMsimulation2.gif
Soil moisture monthly averages (1940-2001)in the Jucar River Basin area with a spatial resolution of 1 km obtained from simulations with the Jucar River Authority Hydrological Model (A. Fidalgo)
