Valencian airfields of the Civil War

During the Spanish Civil War, the air force was one of the key factors that tipped the scales in favour of one faction. Due to this issue and the fact that there were not enough facilities, a large amount of airfields were built all around Spain. Valencia was no exception as 38 airfields were created during the war to supply the front and defend the area against enemy strikes.

The exhibition is organised by the Valencian Department of Housing, Public Works and Territorial Structure through the Demetrio Ribes Chair. It explains the airfields and the elements within (command posts, guard posts, air-raid shelters, ammunition dumps...) as a network to defend the area. It also contextualises them in an historic period characterised by air raids, bombers, industrial production, cartography, culture and art.
