Conference and workshop on the Airbnb effect in Valencia

Airbnb Effect in Valencia is a conference organised by the Chair of Collaborative Economy of the Universitat de València, Las Naves and Montera34. It also counts on the collaboration of DataHippo.

Recent appearance of peer to peer lodging platforms such as Airbnb is causing fast changes in most tourist attractive city centres. Therefore, these changes need to be studied rigorously so that the city councils can implement new urban regulations.

The objective of the workshop is learning how to collect and analyse data in order to write down reports that clarify the impact of Airbnb and other lodging platforms.

The workshops will address a series of questions which will be answered by the attendees in groups.  In order to do so, the attendees will research different data using tools and techniques for analysis and display.

The workshops are organised in three sessions that will explain how to write a report that analyses the Airbnb effect in Valencia. The sessions are: Explore, Prototype and Document.

1 Explore (5 hours)

This session will study the basis of data analysis and display. We will define the reality that we want to analyse, choose our tools and know the motivations of the other members of the team with which we will work on the workshop.

2 Prototype (5 hours)

We will produce prototypes for a quick display of data in order to be used in the report.

3 Document (5 hours)

We will focus on the details of the displays that have been previously created. We must make sure that they are easy to understand and that anyone knows how and why we have created them. We will always work on the basis that our project will be continued by another individual in the future.
