On Friday, February 7, the opening session of the XII Family Business Course took place: Key aspects for its competitiveness and durability, in the Sánchez Ayuso Room of the Faculty of Economics. The session was presented by Fidel Mayor (Bankia), Alejandro Escribá (CEFUV) and the presentation by Francisco Vallejo (CEO of Isaval Paintings).

The session began with the presentation focused on 'The owner family and their roles in the management and governance of the company'. During the same Francisco Vallejo highlighted the humble origins and challenges faced by the founders of Pinturas Isaval (his father and his uncles) and how they contributed to form and develop values that, even today, are part of the company.

He subsequently treated his landing at the company, which occurs in a complex period of the same, and how the first generational change was made within the management of Isaval Paintings. In a later tour he discussed the impact of the 2008 crisis (or the consequences of the fall of construction), the strategies that were followed to overcome it, such as the present and future of the company, as well as some brushstrokes on its international presence .

Lastly, Francisco wanted to highlight the "Strengths and Traps" that affect the Family Business. Among the strengths he commented: Union, Trust, Commitment, Values or the indissolubility of the family-business union and the most important of all, the Legacy. Regarding the pitfalls, he stressed the conflicts between ownership and management, family and business interests or the lack of succession planning.

Next, the attendees of the course had the possibility of enjoying a 'Coffee Break' in the Hall of the Faculty of Economics before continuing with the session.

Then Alejandro Escribá developed the first academic session focused on the Introduction to Family Business. The session was open to the participation of the attendees, who were able to convey their doubts, motivations and ideas. During the session the concepts of Family Business were presented, its current importance and its differential value were highlighted. The session concluded with a debate on the roles and functions of the 4 Agents (Family, Property, Government and Management) in the Family Business.

The course will continue this Friday, February 14, where the UV professor Pilar González will discuss "Conflict Management in the Family Business".
