On Friday, July 9, the XIII edition of the Family Business Course "Key aspects for its competitiveness and durability" ended, organized by the Chair of Family Business (CEFUV), with the collaboration of its promoters: the Valencian Association of Entrepreneurs (AVE), the School of Entrepreneurs (EDEM), the Valencian Institute for the Study of Family Business (IVEFA) , the Institute of Family Business (IEF), the Universitat de València (UV), and with the sponsorship of Broseta and CaixaBank.

The closing took place at ADEIT, where promoters, sponsors, teachers and students gathered to celebrate the completion of the course. Alejandro Escribá, Director of the Chair of Family Business, began the event by thanking the support, commitment and generosity of the promoters and sponsors. Then, he highlighted the continued success of this course, which the Chair of Family Business has offered for 13 years.

This XIII edition has had an exceptional group of assistants and teachers. Almost 50% of the attendees came from the professional world, and the heterogeneity of profiles and qualifications of the participants in the course has made the experience very enriching for both students and teachers. The course has had students of a very diverse nature, from doctoral programs (Doctorate in Business Management; Education; Physics) and master's degree (Master in law; tourism management and planning; business strategy; marketing and commercial management; Executive MBA) to undergraduate students (Degree in ADE; tourism, systems administration, law, English studies, pharmacy, management and public administration, history, engineering, teaching, psychology, industrial relations and human resources; and Double degree ADE + Law).

At the beginning of the course the attendees indicated their expectations about the course. Among the aspects mentioned, they indicated their interest in acquiring new knowledge and tools for the management and solution of problems in Family Businesses, learning about the competitiveness and durability of the Family Business, improving their professional training, knowing the reality of Family Businesses, their operation, their organization and strategy, or approaching the processes and tools useful in the succession in the Family Business.

In the final survey of the course about their satisfaction, 100% of our students were satisfied.

"The students showed satisfaction rates of at least 98% for each of the teachers"

The Chair has carried out a constant monitoring of the evaluation of the professors and the different sessions with the aim of continuing to improve both this course and the rest of the teaching activities carried out. The students rated all the teachers positively, with a positive assessment percentage of at least 98% for each of the teachers. During the closing ceremony, four of the teachers were recognized for their levels of excellence:

Later, two of the students of the course made an assessment of the course on behalf of the rest of the attendees:

Andrea Castellar (Project Manager at Discomon, 2nd generation) commented that for her the course had been like a painting of a tree, the tree of the family business, in which each leaf has been a new concept a new brushstroke. A picture that is about to end and that will continue to paint on the road that remains to be traveled. He detailed some of the brushstrokes that he takes from the course:

  • Bernardo Gregori and his family corporate strategy, how Grefusa has grown and what a great example!
  • Juanvi Tamarit the PASSION in the company, the family businesses are much more than the family, the people who make them up are special.
  • María Beltrán with the family culture and values, the GENEROSITY so important in this type of companies.
  • Pilar González and conflict management, which is important to know how to detect the origin of the conflict and channel it.
  • Alejandro Escribá and the challenges of the family business, such as being competitive, which is important to professionalize and have an order within the organization, a plan. And the scenario, which is important is the context and the ability to generate them in the medium- long term to be "gardeners" and in the short "commanders". Great lesson from Tomás González.

Juan Antonio Muñoz Tirado (Director of operations at Nucleonova, 2nd generation) commented that he began to interest you in how to be able to succeed and manage the durability of his family business, in it they have detected and are managing the different challenges to which, after the Family Business course, they have been able to name and have known the different tools and considerations to take into account to face them.

In general, he is very satisfied with the content of the course, since almost all the aspects necessary to guarantee the continuity and durability of the Family Business have been covered and touched on, with special emphasis on the values and the importance of knowing how to manage conflicts.

For their part, our promoters and sponsors dedicated a few words to the attendees highlighting the importance of continuing to work and supporting the Chair in all its activities, since this course takes tools for property, family and business management. In addition to understanding and valuing the work of Family Businesses in society.

In the conclusions of the event, the director of the Chair, Alejandro Escribá stressed that the Chair of Family Business is committed to its mission: To contribute, from the academic world, to the improvement of the competitiveness and durability of family businesses. The project of the chair aims to advance in this mission through teaching, and also through the creation of knowledge about the management of the family business, and the transfer of knowledge to the professional world. He highlighted the value that each of the promoters, sponsors and interest groups that accompany the chair in this way contribute and stressed the spirit of service and contribution of value to society that moves the Chair of Family Business in all its actions.
