(Before starting the conference a cultural visit around the city of Gandía has been planned)

We will talk about the development of the end of the Civil War, specially the tragic last weeks and days in València, Alicante and Gandía. The role of the port of Gandía, where the National Council of Casado (the last government of the Republic) embarked in British ships. About how Alicante fostered thousands of “republicanos” who were afraid of retaliation and wanted to flee from a territory that soon would be controlled by the “franquistas”. Of the escape that never happened, except for a some thousands in the Stanbrook ship and tens in the Maritim. And the fierce retaliation that would follow.

We will also talk about the relevance of the port of Gandía, of English property, that was the exportation point of thousands of tons of oranges, the most important element for buying weapons for the Republic.

Afterwards, we will visit the port and walk around the area where the National Defence Council embarked. This will be followed by a talk about the air raid of the Italian and German planes.
