The thriller Lullaby by Leïla Slimani under debate in the Alumni Club in March

  • March 1st, 2020
Leïla Slimani

On 3 March, the Alumni Literature Club debated the novel by Leïla Slimani Lullaby (original French title Chanson douce), regarding some issues of today’s society. Love, education, submission, money, class and cultural prejudices. The group held a meeting in the Exposition Palace of València at 6 p.m.

Myriam, a mother of two, decides to return to her work at a law firm despite her husband's reluctance. After a careful selection process to find a new nanny, they decide on Louise, who quickly wins the hearts of the children and becomes an indispensable figure in the household. But little by little, the trap of interdependence is going to become a drama.

With a direct, incisive and sometimes dark style, Leïla Slimani unfolds a disturbing thriller in which, through the characters, the problems of today’s society are revealed to us, with their conception of love and education, of submission and money, of class and cultural prejudices.
