On Saturday September 26, the AlumniUV collective offered two guided tours through the Republican Valencia, a proposal "for observation and reflection on events that happened in specific places," according to guide Jose Mª Azcárraga. The activity was part of the Alumni Comparteix program and registration was essential. The activities were open to the general public as well as members of the collective.

To formalize the registration, you will have to choose one of the two groups that have been created. Group 1 will attend the Torres de los Serranos and the route will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Group 2 will attend the Lluis Vives Institute and the route will be from 11am to 1pm. It will be essential to present the ticket that will be obtained with the registration. For your safety and that of everyone, check the link the Covid-19 protocol.

The registration, although the activity is free, will have to be done through the Events application, in the following links:

Group 2: https://events.fundacio.es/e/454/ruta-per-la-valencia-republicana-grup-2

The 'Republican Valencia' route, explains the guide José María Azcárraga, has “archaeological connotations that uses material remains and unearths the stories that remain hidden in them, and that claims the active protection of a forgotten heritage that, until recently, lacked of the slightest signposting ”. José María Azcárraga is a biologist and retired professor of Experimental and Social Sciences and is part of the AlumniUV collective.

Thus, the route proposed by the Biology professor is one of the “many that could be drawn on the map of the city”, but which will focus on 22 buildings and relevant spaces during the Second Republic. “There is a greater number of stops that attend the war period and, within this, the year in which Valencia was the capital of the State - November 36 to October 37 -.

However, other spaces and outstanding events that occurred after the proclamation of the Republic in 1931 are not forgotten, ”he explains. In this sense, a diverse itinerary has been developed that includes the different relevant themes of the Republican period. "That is why places related to daily life, education, political life, the capital of the city, architecture, war and culture have been sought," he concludes.
