The novel of the Valencian writer, Arroz y tartana, will serve as guide to deepen into the València of the end of the 19th century by the hand of Héctor Hernández, PhD. in Hispanic Philology and lecturer in the Department of Language and Literature Didactics at the Faculty of Education.

The literary walk will serve to discover more about the great Valencian author, Vicente Blasco Ibáñez. The activity will start at 17 hours on the 23 June, in Carrer dels Cordellats, and will end at the doors of the Teatre Principal, in Carrer de les Barques.

Arroz y tartana (1894) will guide us into the València of the regency of Maria Cristina of Habsburg, where, through the reading of extracts from the novel, we can delve into this period which was the peak of the Renaixença, recovery of the Valencian language and traditions, and the beginnings of the growth and remodelling of the city against the backdrop of Modernism, as well as the beginnings of republicanism, with Blasco Ibáñez as its greatest exponent.

Héctor Hernández will be the Alumni who will guide this literary walk. He is PhD in Hispanic Philology by the Universitat de València, and lecturer in the Department of Language and Literature Didactics at the Faculty of Education, and also a member of the continuous innovation project “Geografías literarias 3.0" and of the UV research group “Geografías literarias (GEOLIT)".
