Under the baton of Hilari Garcia, the Orchestra will visit Gandia again to start the course 2024/2025. This year's appointment will be even more special, as it will be a commemoration of the 525th anniversary of the Universitat de València.

The concert will take place this Thursday, October 24, at 9:00pm in the Serrano Theatre in Gandia, and the admission is free until full capacity.

The program has been specially elaborated for the opening concert of the academic course 2024-2025 of the Universitat de València, that this year will be dedicated to the 525th anniversary of the Universitat de València. They will start with the well-known march Pomp and Circumstance, opus 39, of the composer Edward Elgar (1857-1934), that is usually played in the Anglo-Saxon world at the start of academic acts and graduations. After that, they will interpret the Concierto de estío para violín of Joaquín Rodrigo (1901-1999), whose 25th death anniversary is also celebrated this year. Then, they will play Edward Elgar's Variations on an Original Theme, Op. 36 (1898-1899).

The Philharmonic Orchestra of the Universitat de València (OFUV) was created by Cristóbal Soler in 1995 in response and to give cohesion to diverse offers of instrumental groups formed by students. The OFUV is currently composed by 80 young musicians, mostly university students, with an average age of 20. Its objective is providing its members with high-quality training in orchestral performance, with specialised teaching staff. After the departure of Cristóbal Soler, its titular directors have been Beatriz Fernández Aucejo and Hilari Garcia.
