Dones lliures (Free Women)

Political prisoners and the generation of the TOP

Written and directed by Iván Campillo

By La Voz Ahogada Scenic Project

Synopsis

Free Women is the first stage production that portrays the torture, conditions, and experiences of women prisoners during the late Francoist period (1960s and 70s), focusing on political prisoners convicted for acts that are now considered rights, on prisoners for LGTBIQ+ reasons, and on the Romani community.

Free Women describes, based on the autobiographical accounts of its protagonists, the turbulent situation of late Francoism and the struggle for freedom and democracy carried out by women. Those brave women who, in times of clandestinity, took up the mantle from those who came before them—women who had suffered simply for being women, for wanting to think freely, and for believing in values such as freedom and democracy in a time of silence, repression, injustice, and lack of liberties.

Tickets can be reserved in advance at the University Shop (La Tenda), at La Nau, on the campuses, or online (https://events.fundacio.es/o/5)
