The Philharmonic Orchestra of the Universitat de València (OFUV), led by the director Beatriz Fernández Aucejo, starts a concert tour to celebrate their 25th anniversary since their establishment. The concerts will be held on Thursday, 20th February, and on Saturday, 22nd February, in the Valencian Community, in Ontinyent and Llíria respectively. On the 28 of February at 20:30, they will also give a concert in Ávila in Lienzo Norte Auditorium. The tour will end in Zaragoza on the 1st of March with a concert at 11:30 in Zaragoza Auditorium.
Repertoire
The leitmotif of the concerts will be the music of the Russian composers of the 20th century. This tour of the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Universitat de València aims to introduce the public to the most famous Russian music of the time. All the musical pieces narrate a story from the tsarist government to the rise of communism and the Soviet Union.
In Ontinyent, the programme will feature various pieces of waltzes and polonaises of Glazunov, Glinka, and Tchaikovsky, including the ballet The Sleeping Beauty.
In Llíria, the orchestra will perform the same pieces in addition to the Symphony No. 12 of Shostakovich, which is very characteristic of the Russian music for its heroic and epic tones. The same repertoire will be performed at the first stop on a tour, in Ávila.
The final concert in Zaragoza is divided in two parts. The first one will feature the interpretation of the cantata Alexander Nevsky of Sergei Prokofiev. The orchestra will perform this piece together with the Coro Amici Musicae choir of the Zaragoza Auditorium under the direction of Igor Tantos and with the leading voice of Ekaterina Antipova (mezzo-soprano). The visit to the capital of Aragón will end with the Symphony No. 12 of Shostakovich, which should be played in other towns of the tour.
Beatriz Fernández, the director of the Orchestra, affirms that “it is an honour to have this opportunity to leave our surroundings to introduce ourselves to others and show which message we can send through music.” “We are enthusiastic about this repertoire with very challenging artistic works, which will also demonstrate the historical and political background of a composer in relation to ‘his’ Russia through both symphony and movie contents of Eisenstein and the music genius Prokofiev,” she concludes.
