The cinematic obsession with the figure of the cannibal and cannibalism, is as old as cinema itself.
From Edward Salinsbury's Gow the Head Hunter (1928) to Luca Guadagnino's Bones and All (2022), dozens of films have approached the subject from documentary, sensationalist, melodramatic or terrifying angles, addressing one of our most dreadful and ancestral cultural and psychological demons, our intricate cultural relationship with food, stripped of any idealisation.
