Conference:  Chile, la alegría se acabó (Chile, fun’s over)

Conference given by Modesto Gayo, sociologist, Professor at the Escuela de Sociología at the Diego Portales University. 

After a long period of stability, being highlighted as a country different from those of its Latin American environment due to its great economic and political achievements, Chile is currently experiencing a great social backlash similar to that of its countries in the region, such as Bolivia, Ecuador and Colombia. Emphasizing its own characteristics and in dialogue with previous descriptions, the Chilean reality is described with crudeness (setting forth the strong inequality situation), the elitist biases of its institutions and the enormous challenges posed by the current situation, which includes working on a constituent process that is approaching within a deeply volatile social context.
