The Universitat de València is holding its traditional opening course concert at the Teatro Serrano of Gandia, performed by the Orquestra Filharmònica of the Universitat, under the baton of Beatriz Fernández. The repertoire serves to travel across time through the main musical styles of the last three centuries.
The concert, which takes place on Thursday 17th October at 7:30 p.m., includes pieces by Debussy, Mozart and Schumann, and is divided into two parts. The first one with the transverse flute as the central instrument and a minor symphonic intervention, and the second one where the complete Orquestra from Valencia will participate.
The first part of the show opens with C. Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun which will continue with Flute Concerto and Orchestra No. 1 in G major, K313. In this piece the intervention of the Valencian Amalia Tortajada, flute of the Gulbenkian Orchestra of Lisbon since 2012 and ex-member of the Orquestra Filharmònica of the Universitat will be highlighted. She acts as a soloist for this flute concerto.
Meanwhile, in the second part the Orquestra performs Robert Schumann's Symphony No. 1(Spring) in B -flat major, op. 38, the first of the four symphonies composed by the German composer in the first half of the 19th century.
It is, in short, “a very particular repertoire that requires a great musical skill to completely change the interpretative articulation in each movement, in each piece, and in such a short interval of time,” says the director, who presented herself before her second opening concert of the course “very excited” after a year at the head of the Valencian Filharmònica.
