The third edition of the Setmana de la Ciència begins in Gandia

Setmana de la ciència (Science Week).

A new edition of Setmana de la Ciència (Science Week) begins next Monday, November 4, in the capital of La Safor. The programme includes workshops held in the region’s student body and conferences open to the general public.

For the third year in a row, the Centre of Gandia of the Universitat de València, with the Gandia Campus of the UPV and the CEIC Alfons el Vell organised the Setmana de la Ciència that will take place from 4th to 8th November.  The programme includes a series of workshops and activities aimed at primary and secondary school pupils in the county where the youngest will be able to learn how to make a fossil, to print in 3D or to make interactive flowers. In addition, the students will learn what ultrasound is and how it is applied to industry and aircraft manufacturing. They will also understand some of the relationship between mathematics and arts, such as music, drawing, magic etc.

 

The programme for this third edition also includes a series of conferences open to all audiences. The first of the scheduled conferences will take place on Monday 4th and will be given by Ivan Martí of the Astronomic Observatory of the Universitat de València who will talk about ‘Fotografiant la frontera del temps i de l’espai’ (Photographing the frontier of time and space). Tuesday 5th Marta Macho, from the University of the Basque Country, will talk about science made by women.  Wednesday 6th, Sergi Maicas, coordinator of the Projecte Smalle World Iniciativesof the UV, will give the conference ‘Apocalipsis microbiana en un món sense antibiòtics’ (Microbial apocalypse in a world without antibiotics).  Thursday 7th will be the moment of the conference given by Ana Delgado, from the Asociación Española de Acústica, who will try to explain the impact of noise pollution in our day-to-day life.  The last conference will take place on Friday 8th and it will be given by Juli Peretó, Deputy Director of the Institute for Integrative Systems Biology of the UV, who has scheduled the speech ‘L'orige de les espècies de Darwin: una invitació a la lectura’ (The origin of Darwin's species: an invitation to read).

All conferences will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Casa de la Cultura in Gandia and are open to the general public.
